Saturday August 14 German Top Methanol (i.e. Top Alcohol) Funny Car driver Jürgen Nagel finally scored his first ever run under 6 seconds. Accodrding to motormouth Benny – our track announcer – his first 6.0 was already four years ago…

5.88 lit up on the scoreboard making him #1 in Qualifying in that moment.

“The Challenge” Top Alcohol Funny Car Drag Race

Starring Ron Morrison and Wayne Smith.

I shot this in October, 2006 at Thunder Valley Raceway in Noble, Oklahoma. My dad, Wayne Smith, and his good friend, Ron Morrison, have been racing together for about 10 years. This is my first attempt at a mini-documentary + video homage to my father.

They ran one pass before blowing a hole the size of a silver dollar in the engine block. I just took a camera and filmed everything I could.

Comments and critiques are welcome.

Shot with a DVX-100a camera and edited in Final Cut Pro.
